Cade entered London over London Bridge on 3 July 1450 and struck the London Stone claiming the Lord Mayoralty; Lord Say and Sele (James Fiennes) was tried at Guildhall and beheaded at Cheapside on 4 July, and his son-in-law William Crowmer was also executed, their heads paraded on pikes and fixed to London Bridge; rebel troops then began looting and drunken disorder, alienating the citizens who had been sympathetic; this culminated in an overnight battle on London Bridge on 8 to 9 July in which the rebels were repulsed with heavy casualties, effectively ending the occupation of the city.
