Outcome
Third and final siege of Pontefract Castle; the last Royalist castle in England to hold out after the execution of Charles I. Royalists under John Morris had retaken the castle in June 1648 by a ruse; besieged by Parliamentarian forces including Rainsborough (murdered by a Royalist sortie in October 1648) and later Cromwell; Colonel Morris surrendered the castle to Major General John Lambert on 24 March 1649. Parliament then ordered the castle demolished.
