Red Crown / Platte City gun battle was a Indian Wars and Frontier Conflicts engagement fought in Missouri, 1933.
A running gun battle erupted when lawmen surrounded the Barrow Gang at the Red Crown Tourist Court near Platte City, Missouri, and the outlaws shot their way out under heavy fire. The gang, holed up in tourist cabins, met an armored-car-backed police assault with automatic weapons and escaped, but Buck Barrow was gravely wounded by a head shot and his wife Blanche was blinded in one eye by flying glass. The Platte City fight was one of the fiercest of the Barrow Gang's clashes with police and left the group crippled, leading days later to their encirclement at Dexfield Park in Iowa. The battle demonstrated both the gang's firepower and its growing desperation as coordinated law-enforcement closed in during the summer of 1933.
