Holt Down Plantation is an ancient monument in Hampshire comprising Romano-British and Iron Age structural remains alongside evidence of Romano-British and Iron Age agricultural land use. The site contains the fragmentary remains of buildings from both periods, together with a field system and hollow ways that attest to sustained occupation and farming activity across the Iron Age and Roman periods. The hollow ways, which represent trackways worn into the landscape by repeated use, indicate patterns of movement and access across the plantation, whilst the field system demonstrates the organisation of arable or pastoral land during these periods. The survival of these earthwork features provides archaeological evidence for settlement continuity and the agricultural economy of the region during the late prehistoric and Roman occupation phases.
