Duffié against Confederate foot soldiers commanded by Maj. Gen. John C. Breckinridge. The engagement unfolded near what is today Purcellville, Virginia, within Loudoun County, forming part of the broader Valley Campaigns of 1864. Neither side gained a decisive tactical advantage, leaving the outcome unresolved.
