What happened
In retaliation for the Río Piedras massacre, Nationalists Hiram Rosado and Elias Beauchamp killed Colonel E. Francis Riggs in San Juan on 23 February 1936. The two were subsequently killed by police while in custody, and Nationalist leader Pedro Albizu Campos was later convicted and sentenced to federal prison.
