About this property
The Hartford Commercial Historic District encompasses about two blocks of buildings in the central business district of Hartford, Arkansas. Extending on the east side of Broadway from just north of Main Street to south of Ludlow Street, they are the only major commercial buildings left from Hartford's boom years of 1880–1920, when coal in the area was mined for use by the railroads. Most of the buildings are single-story brick structures, in typical early-20th-century commercial styles.

Federal Designation
The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the National Park Service, is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical, architectural, archaeological, engineering, or cultural significance. Listing on the National Register recognizes a property's importance to American history but does not place restrictions on private owners; it does, however, make properties eligible for federal historic preservation tax incentives and enables consideration in federal planning decisions. This property is recorded in the National Register under reference number 09000514. It was listed on July 14, 2009.
