About this property
The Castle Terrace Historic District is located in Clinton, Iowa, United States. The area was platted in 1892 and developed about 1926 by the Curtis Service Bureau of the Curtis Company. They were woodwork manufacturers in Clinton and used the development as a promotional project to showcase the company's products for developers, architects, and builders. It was situated on eleven lots and featured trees, curving streets, and spacious lawns, which gave the area a village atmosphere. The utility lines were placed underground.

Federal Designation
The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the National Park Service, is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical, architectural, archaeological, engineering, or cultural significance. Listing on the National Register recognizes a property's importance to American history but does not place restrictions on private owners; it does, however, make properties eligible for federal historic preservation tax incentives and enables consideration in federal planning decisions. This property is recorded in the National Register under reference number 97001607. It was listed on January 7, 1998.
