About this property

The Blaine County Courthouse in Hailey, Idaho is a historic building built in 1883 to serve Alturas County, which later became Blaine County. It is a three-story building that held county offices, a jail, and a courtroom, and, at $40,000 building cost, was the most expensive building in the Idaho Territory, hurting Alturas County financially. Located at 1st and Croy Sts., it was designed by Horace Greeley Knapp in Italianate style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The brick building stands on a raised cutstone basement.

Federal Designation

The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the National Park Service, is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical, architectural, archaeological, engineering, or cultural significance. Listing on the National Register recognizes a property's importance to American history but does not place restrictions on private owners; it does, however, make properties eligible for federal historic preservation tax incentives and enables consideration in federal planning decisions. This property is recorded in the National Register under reference number 78001050. It was listed on February 17, 1978.
