About this property

The Kansas City Southern Depot was a railway station in Mansfield, Louisiana. Kansas City Southern Railway had laid tracks through the area in 1896 and established a station at Mansfield. A new station building was constructed in 1927, replacing an older structure on the site. A local KCS train served the town into the 1960s. After passenger and freight service ended, KCS gifted the station to the city under the provision that it be used for some civic purpose.

Federal Designation

The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the National Park Service, is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical, architectural, archaeological, engineering, or cultural significance. Listing on the National Register recognizes a property's importance to American history but does not place restrictions on private owners; it does, however, make properties eligible for federal historic preservation tax incentives and enables consideration in federal planning decisions. This property is recorded in the National Register under reference number 88003198. It was listed on February 1, 2019.
