About this property

Keachi Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church located on Louisiana Highway 5 in Keachi in DeSoto Parish in northwestern Louisiana. It was built in 1858 in Greek Revival style and it was deemed to be "the finest" among merely seven country Greek Revival churches in the state of Louisiana, three of which happen to be in Keachi. Its portico with four Doric columns was enclosed in renovations in the 1890s, and the building's cupola appears to have been added then as well.

Federal Designation

The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the National Park Service, is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical, architectural, archaeological, engineering, or cultural significance. Listing on the National Register recognizes a property's importance to American history but does not place restrictions on private owners; it does, however, make properties eligible for federal historic preservation tax incentives and enables consideration in federal planning decisions. This property is recorded in the National Register under reference number 88000981. It was listed on June 29, 1988.
