It is the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark. The church building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 3, 1972, for its significance in architecture and religion. It was added as a contributing property to the Military Park Commons Historic District on June 18, 2004. The cathedral reported 66 members in 2023; no membership statistics were reported in 2024 parochial reports.
