About this property

The Clovelly Garden Apartments, also known as Holman Gardens, are a historic apartment complex located in northeast Portland, Oregon, United States. Built in 1928 in the Tudor Revival style, they are a fine example of the garden apartments popular in Portland in the late 1920s and early 1930s. They were designed by prominent architect Carl L. Linde (1864–1945) under commission to George Nease (1874–1958), an influential timber businessman.

Federal Designation

The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the National Park Service, is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical, architectural, archaeological, engineering, or cultural significance. Listing on the National Register recognizes a property's importance to American history but does not place restrictions on private owners; it does, however, make properties eligible for federal historic preservation tax incentives and enables consideration in federal planning decisions. This property is recorded in the National Register under reference number 83002169. It was listed on May 18, 1983.
