About this property
The Boundary Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam across the Pend Oreille River, located in the U.S. state of Washington, in the northeast corner of the state. Completed in 1967 for the conventional generation of hydroelectricity, the dam is operated by Seattle City Light and generates a significant portion of the City of Seattle's energy portfolio. On average, it provides between 46 and 60 percent of the power generated by Seattle City Light. The dam wall is 338 feet (103 m) high and 738 feet (225 m) long. The underground powerhouse, called the Boundary Dam Hydro Power Plant, is completely built inside of the rock that makes up the left abutment of the dam wall.

Federal Designation
The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the National Park Service, is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical, architectural, archaeological, engineering, or cultural significance. Listing on the National Register recognizes a property's importance to American history but does not place restrictions on private owners; it does, however, make properties eligible for federal historic preservation tax incentives and enables consideration in federal planning decisions. This property is recorded in the National Register under reference number 100002394. It was listed on May 1, 2018.
