About this property
Marlowe Elementary School was built in 1922 as an eight-room school to serve grades 1 through 8 in Marlowe, West Virginia. The new school allowed a number of one-room schools in the area to be closed. The Marlowe School is a two-story brick building on a concrete base. As originally built there were four rooms on each of the two main levels, with a cafeteria and mechanical rooms in the basement. Each classroom was provided with a coatroom.

Federal Designation
The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the National Park Service, is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical, architectural, archaeological, engineering, or cultural significance. Listing on the National Register recognizes a property's importance to American history but does not place restrictions on private owners; it does, however, make properties eligible for federal historic preservation tax incentives and enables consideration in federal planning decisions. This property is recorded in the National Register under reference number 06000169. It was listed on March 22, 2006.
