Biography

Alvin Hansen was an economist born in Viborg, South Dakota in 1887 and died in 1975. He taught at the University of Minnesota before becoming a chair professor of economics at Harvard University. Hansen introduced Keynesian economics in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s, and served as an advisor to the government on economic policy. He was instrumental in creating the Council of Economic Advisors and the Social Security system.
