Angelica Singleton Van Buren was born in Wedgefield, South Carolina in 1818. She married Abraham Van Buren II, son of President Martin Van Buren, and served as White House hostess after the death of the president's wife Hannah Van Buren, whom he did not remarry after. She assumed this role at the age of 20. She died in 1877.
