Audie Murphy was born in Kingston, Texas in 1925 and died in 1971. He served as a soldier and military officer in World War II, where he received the Medal of Honor at age 19 for actions at the Colmar Pocket in France in January 1945. He also received every military combat award for valor available from the United States Army, along with French and Belgian awards for heroism. After the war, Murphy worked as an actor in film and television, and as a songwriter, composer, lyricist, and screenwriter.
