Barbara Ehrenreich was born in Butte, Montana in 1941 and died in 2022. An author and political activist, she was involved with the Democratic Socialists of America during the 1980s and early 1990s. She wrote 21 books and was a columnist and essayist whose work appeared widely; she received a Lannan Literary Award and the Erasmus Prize. Her 2001 book Nickel and Dimed documented her three-month experience working minimum-wage jobs.
