Cedar Walton was a jazz pianist born in Dallas, Texas on January 17, 1934. He gained prominence as a member of Art Blakey's band, The Jazz Messengers, and went on to lead bands and compose. His compositions include "Mosaic", "Bolivia", "Holy Land", "Mode for Joe", and "Ugetsu/Fantasy in D". He died on August 19, 2013.
