Biography
Charlie Wilson was born in Trinity, Texas in 1933 and served as a naval officer and Democratic politician. He represented Texas's 2nd congressional district for twelve terms in the House of Representatives. Wilson campaigned for congressional support of Operation Cyclone, a CIA covert operation that supplied military equipment to the Afghan Mujahideen during the Soviet–Afghan War under the Carter and Reagan administrations. His role in this operation was documented in the non-fiction book Charlie Wilson's War by George Crile III and adapted into a film in which Tom Hanks portrayed him. Wilson died in 2010.
