Dale Earnhardt was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on April 29, 1951, and worked as a professional stock car driver and racing team owner. He raced in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series from 1975 until his death on February 18, 2001, driving the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. His aggressive driving style led to the nicknames "the Intimidator," "the Man in Black," and "Ironhead." After his son Dale Earnhardt Jr. entered the Cup Series in 1999, he became known as Dale Earnhardt Sr.
