Biography

Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson was born in Deep Gap, North Carolina, in 1923 and died in 2012. He worked as a guitarist, songwriter, and singer across bluegrass, folk, country, blues, and gospel music. Blind from a young age, he performed in a dance band and as a solo artist, and played with his son Merle Watson, a guitarist, for over fifteen years until Merle died in 1985 in an accident on the family farm. Watson won seven Grammy Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
