Edward Calvin Kendall was born in South Norwalk, Connecticut in 1886 and died in 1972. A biochemist and chemist, he received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1950 alongside Tadeusz Reichstein and Philip S. Hench for their work on adrenal gland hormones. His research included isolating thyroxine from the thyroid gland and participating in the crystallization and chemical identification of glutathione.
