Edward Everett Hale was born in Boston in 1822 and died in 1909. He worked as an author, historian, and Unitarian minister. His story "The Man Without a Country" appeared in Atlantic Monthly during the Civil War. He was the grand-nephew of Nathan Hale, a spy in the American Revolutionary War.
