Biography
Ella Grasso was a politician born in Windsor Locks, Connecticut in 1919 who served as the 83rd governor of Connecticut from 1975 to 1980. She was the first woman elected governor in Connecticut and the fourth woman elected governor of any U.S. state. She was also the first female governor who was not the spouse or widow of a former governor. Grasso resigned from office due to ovarian cancer and died in 1981.
