Orvon Grover Autry, known as the Singing Cowboy, was born in Tioga, Texas on September 29, 1907. He worked as an actor, musician, singer, composer, rodeo performer, and baseball team owner. Starting in the early 1930s, Autry sang in a crooning style on radio, in films, and on television across more than three decades. He died on October 2, 1998.
