Biography

Hal Connolly was born in Somerville, Massachusetts in 1931 and competed as a hammer thrower. He won a gold medal in the hammer throw at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne and became the first American to throw a hammer more than 200 feet. He set his first of six world records shortly before the 1956 Olympics and held the world record for nearly 10 years. He died in 2010.
