Harold Hotelling was born on September 29, 1895, in Fulda, Minnesota. He worked as a mathematical statistician, economist, mathematician, and political economist. Hotelling formulated Hotelling's law, Hotelling's lemma, and Hotelling's rule in economics, along with Hotelling's T-squared distribution in statistics. He developed and named the principal component analysis method used in finance, statistics, and computer science. He died on December 26, 1973.
