Henry Way Kendall was born in Boston in 1926 and worked as a physicist and mountaineer. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1990, shared with Jerome Isaac Friedman and Richard E. Taylor, for investigations into deep inelastic scattering of electrons on protons and bound neutrons. He died in 1999.
