Jefferson Davis was born in Fairview, Kentucky, on June 3, 1808, and died on December 6, 1889. He represented Mississippi in the House of Representatives from 1845 to 1846 and served in the United States Senate from 1857 to 1861. Davis held the office of United States secretary of war from 1853 to 1857 under President Franklin Pierce, and served as president of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865 during the American Civil War.
