Biography

John Adair was born in Chester County, South Carolina, in 1757. He served as a registrar and politician, and held military rank. Adair enlisted in the South Carolina militia during the Revolutionary War, during which the British captured him twice as a prisoner of war. After the war, he was elected as a delegate to South Carolina's convention to ratify the United States Constitution. He later served as the eighth governor of Kentucky and represented Kentucky in both the U.S. House and Senate. He died in 1840.
