Biography

John McIntire was born on June 27, 1907, in Washington, Washington, and worked as a stage, film, and television actor. He appeared in 65 theatrical films and numerous television series. Following Ward Bond's death in November 1960, McIntire took over as the lead of NBC's Wagon Train, playing wagon train leader Christopher Hale from early 1961 until the series ended in 1965. He later joined NBC's The Virginian in 1967, succeeding Charles Bickford as ranch owner Clay Grainger, a role he held for four seasons before his death on January 30, 1991.
