John Nance Garner was born in Red River County, Texas in 1868 and died in 1967 at age 98. A lawyer and judge, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas between 1903 and 1933, then as Speaker of the House from 1931 to 1933, before becoming the 32nd Vice President under Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1933 to 1941. He and Schuyler Colfax were the only politicians to hold the offices of both Speaker of the House and Vice President.
