Biography

Julian Jaynes was an American psychologist born in Newton, Massachusetts in 1920. He spent nearly 25 years at Yale and Princeton universities. His 1976 book The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind addressed the problem of consciousness through perspectives drawing on neuroscience, linguistics, psychology, archaeology, history, religion, and analysis of ancient texts. He died in 1997.
