Biography
Louisa May Alcott was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, in 1832 and worked as a novelist, short story writer, poet, nurse, teacher, and domestic worker. She wrote Little Women in 1868, followed by Good Wives, Little Men, and Jo's Boys. Raised in New England by her transcendentalist parents Abigail May and Amos Bronson Alcott, she grew up around intellectuals including Margaret Fuller, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau, and began writing from an early age. She died in 1888.
