Miriam A. Ferguson was born on June 13, 1875, in Bell County, Texas, and died on June 25, 1961. She served as governor of Texas during two separate terms: 1925 to 1927 and 1933 to 1935. Ferguson was the first female governor of Texas and the second woman elected to a governorship in any U.S. state to take office, following Nellie Tayloe Ross of Wyoming.
