Peter Graves was born on March 18, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and died on March 14, 2010. He worked as a film and television actor, director, and military officer. He portrayed Jim Phelps in the television series Mission: Impossible between 1967 and 1973, and again in a revival that ran from 1988 to 1990. He also played airline pilot Captain Clarence Oveur in the 1980 film Airplane! and its 1982 sequel. His elder brother was actor James Arness.
