Biography
Philip Levine was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1928 and died in 2015. He worked as a poet, essayist, and scholar of English literature. For more than thirty years he taught in the English department at California State University, Fresno, and held teaching positions at other universities. He served on the Board of Chancellors of the Academy of American Poets from 2000 to 2006 and was appointed Poet Laureate of the United States for 2011–2012.
