Biography

Robert Curl was an American chemist born in Alice, Texas in 1933. He served as Pitzer–Schlumberger Professor of Natural Sciences and professor of chemistry at Rice University. In 1996, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of buckminsterfullerene and the fullerene class of materials, which he discovered alongside Richard Smalley and Harold Kroto of the University of Sussex. He died in 2022.
