Salvatore Phillip Bono was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1935 and died in 1998. He worked as a singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor. With his second wife Cher, he formed the singing duo Sonny & Cher. A member of the Republican Party, he served as mayor of Palm Springs, California from 1988 to 1992, and as U.S. representative for California's 44th district from 1995 until his death.
