Thomas Clayton Wolfe was born in Asheville, North Carolina, on October 3, 1900, and died on September 15, 1938. He worked as a novelist, short story writer, playwright, poet, essayist, and dramatist. His first novel, Look Homeward, Angel, appeared in 1929, and short fiction from his final years also drew attention. He practiced autobiographical fiction and is considered one of the most important authors of the Southern Renaissance in American letters.
