Timothy Dexter was an American merchant and businessperson born in Malden, Massachusetts in 1747. He became wealthy through marriage and a series of successful investments, which he spent lavishly. Dexter authored a book titled *A Pickle for the Knowing Ones* that became known for its misspellings and grammatical errors. He died in 1806.
