Wayne Dyer was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1940 and died in 2015. He earned degrees from Wayne State University, including an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling in 1970, and worked as a high school guidance counselor and therapist before becoming a professor of counselor education at St. John's University. His first book, Your Erroneous Zones, published in 1976, launched a career during which he published more than 20 books and produced specials for PBS. His early work addressed motivation, self-actualization and assertiveness; by the 1990s his focus had shifted toward spirituality and themes including the "power of intention," and he collaborated with Deepak Chopra on various projects.
