Biography

William Lloyd Garrison was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts in 1805 and worked as an abolitionist, journalist, social reformer, editor, and writer. He founded The Liberator, an anti-slavery newspaper, in 1831 and published it in Boston until 1865, when the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the United States. Garrison supported the rights of women and became a voice for the women's suffrage movement during the 1870s. He died in 1879.
