William T. G. Morton was born in Charlton, Massachusetts in 1819 and worked as a surgeon, physician, and dentist. In 1846, he gave the first public demonstration of inhaled ether for surgical anesthesia. He gained the medical world's acceptance of surgical anesthesia. He died in 1868.
