The Antonine Wall, River Kelvin to 120m NE of Balmuildy Cottages, is a section of the turf-built Roman frontier that traversed central Scotland in the second century AD. Constructed during the reign of the Emperor Antoninus Pius between approximately 142 and 160 AD, this segment forms part of the most northerly frontier of the Roman Empire. The monument consists of the characteristic rampart and ditch of the Antonine Wall, which stretched for approximately 60 kilometres from the Clyde estuary to the Firth of Forth.
