Baligill Burn Limekilns is a collection of lime-burning structures located in Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands. The kilns date from the post-medieval period and represent the industrial exploitation of local limestone resources for agricultural and building purposes. The site comprises the physical remains of one or more kiln structures typical of those used to produce quicklime through the thermal decomposition of limestone, a process essential to both rural improvement and construction work in early modern Scotland. Such kilns were commonly operated on a small scale in remote areas where limestone was readily accessible and there was local demand for lime as a soil amendment and building material.
