Birkby medieval settlement is a scheduled ancient monument in Yorkshire comprising the earthwork remains of a medieval village, its associated open field system, a moated enclosure, and fishponds. The settlement is believed to date from the medieval period, with the physical evidence suggesting occupation and agricultural use from at least the twelfth century onwards. The moated site represents a domestic or manorial focus within the wider settlement pattern, whilst the fishponds demonstrate the management of water resources typical of medieval rural estates. The surviving earthworks preserve important evidence of the medieval agrarian landscape and settlement hierarchy in Yorkshire.
