History & significance

Birkby medieval settlement and associated field system, moated site and fishponds is a complex of medieval rural remains located in Yorkshire, England. The site comprises the earthwork evidence of a medieval settlement together with its surrounding agricultural landscape, including ridge and furrow field systems, a moated enclosure, and fishponds which date from the medieval period. These features collectively represent the material evidence of medieval land use and settlement patterns characteristic of the Yorkshire landscape.
