Bowl barrow 300m WSW of Stonehenge is a Neolithic or Early Bronze Age burial monument forming part of the extensive round barrow cemetery that clusters around Stonehenge Down in Wiltshire. The barrow comprises a simple earthen mound of circular plan, characteristic of the bowl barrow type, which represents one of the earlier forms of round barrow construction in southern Britain. Its position within this dense cemetery reflects the ritual importance of the Stonehenge landscape during the third and second millennia before Christ, when successive generations chose to inter their dead in proximity to the stone circle and its associated monuments. The survival of this barrow, along with its neighbouring mounds, provides valuable evidence for burial practice and land use patterns in Neolithic and Bronze Age Wessex.
